How do I get WindowsXP to recognize a new 160 gig H.D.?

In the setup screen, Windows is seeing approximately 130 gigs, and that's
it.

Is there a workaround for this?

Thank you.

You need to apply SP1 or above.

Your BIOS needs to support LBA. Your XP must be at least at SP1.

If you are trying to install onto the 160 gig:

1) You might try to use Western Digital's driver to see if it will
work with your IDE controller when installing winxp.

2) Stream the SP1 onto a new CD for install as the SP1 or SP2 will
see all 160 gigs.

If you are adding a 160 gig to the system:

3) just install SP1, at least

4) Or use WD's driver if it is a "Promise" type.

When I got my 160 gig for replacement, it came with a controller &
driver because WD recognized that winxp is a huge problem.

Someone on this newsgroup just said "stream the winxp" ASSuming that
everyone knows how; that was expected from a m$-mvp as that "person"
didn't reply when I asked how & if developer resources were needed.

For streaming, do a search in google on particulars, especially for
the "autostream" batch exec that will make things easier. Sorry,
can't post a website now as using linux in command mode for this
posting.

I wish to thank everyone for their suggestions.

I've yet to come here and NOT receive good advice.

Again, it's a pleasure to post a question here and receive such positive
responses.

Thanks for your help.

In order to get Windows XP setup to see past 137 GB (131,000 MB), you
have to use a version of the CD that incorporates either SP1 or SP2.
Google slipstream windows to see how to accomplish this.

I wrote a thank you, but I don't see it here.

Anyway, I want to thank everyone again for their help and advice.

It truly is appreciated.

For some reason, yesterdays thank you from me never arrived.

Thank you to everyone who responded to this post; it is most appreciated.
