i have been running an old programme on computer which
has suddenly stopped working(possibly related to recent
service pack 2 update) have also recently cleared off
trojans and to do so had to disable system restore which
is now back on
any ideas how to get it to run

the message i get is
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt.
the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos
applications

Two possible causes:
Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g. see
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]
which is easily missed by regular anti-spy programs

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:

You can correct the matter by copying windows\repair\autoexec.nt back
into windows\system32, but if you have one of these problems it will
only arise again
