16 bit Windows Subsystem Error

Hi,

I get an error window popping up now when I try to run certain programs.
Some software now has a problem installing and others will install but says
it cannot locate the disk. The error window that pops up when I try to run
certain programs say this:

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose ‘Close’ to
terminate the application.

Dose anyone have any idea what happened and how to fix it?

Hi

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by
copying a backup copy held in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(%windir% is typically C:\Windows) instead of using the procedure in
the KB article above.

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:

Hi Torgeir,

It turned out to be the TrojanDownloader./win32.Dia.a that was discribed in
your first groups.google.com link in your post. I had no autoexec.nt and I
had the Winad Client on my machine. I took out Winad using Add and Remove
Programs and put back autoexec.nt and everything works good now.

I am having a lot of other problems caused by spyware and worms that I need
to clear up though.

Thank you for your help.
