16 bit network application

Hi All,

I have a client who is using a scheduling/patient recordkeeping system for
his chiropractic office. He just received a new laptop with Vista (I think
Home Premium) and the software will not run on it. It is a bit of a bugger
because the actual application is actually on the "server" computer and is
run from a mapped drive on the "client" computers. The application is Chiro
7000 and it is a 16 bit application (I gathered this from the task manager).
I know that it is not a firewall problem because I disabled the firewall to
test that theory. It appears that the software is not compatible with
Vista. Here is where the problem comes in; I can not set a compatibility
mode on it because the application is not local.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem? The obvious
solution is to upgrade to the most recent version of the software (Chiro
8000) but that solution is not in the cards because we have attempted that
with XP and the new software does not work properly and the support for it
is essentially non-existant (this from an "award winning" support team,
according to their website).

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Maybe it's time to dump the current system and get something new. It sounds
like you will continuly have problems with this company and maybe it's best
to cut your losses now and move on to another solution.

Well I agree and so do my clients but the only options that they have found
that they like cost in the neighborhood of $10K, so for the short term they
need to stick with their current system. Also, they have many years of data
in this system.

So, any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

I just came from my Chiropractor. They recently upgraded from Chiro
7000 to Chiro 8000 and as you know it's full of bugs. Also, as you
mentioned support it horrible.

Do you know if using Vista will improve their chances of fixing their
problems? They are also on Windows XP.

Running a virtual machine would probably be the easiest solution.

Have you tried creating a shortcut to the executable and setting compat mode
on the shortcut?

It does not appear that they are interested in fixing anything at this
time. The first time that we dealt with this was shortly after the
first release of Chiro 8000 and at that time they ended up returning
the software. They were hoping that things got resolved in the second
release.

Hi Joe,

That was the first thing I tried because that is the way that we have
it configured on all of the other systems in the office. However
Vista did not allow me to set the compat mode on the shortcut.
