16 bit apps in XP Home edition

Boyd Reilly

I have a few 16 bit applications that used fine on XP Home Edition. It may
not be related, but I think these apps stopped working after running a
recent patch from MS. I can run these apps under Safe Mode. However, in
regular mode it will start and close within seconds. No error messages.

I'm under the impression that my wowexec.exe, or related DLL, is damaged. If
this is a bad assumption, please say so. So, I want to fix it. I do not
have an XP Home edition CD. I do have access to W2K and Win XP Pro
computers and CDs. Can I somehow get a replacement directly off a computer
or from one of those CDs?

TIA.

Don't know what your problem is but if you want to reload the file click
Start, Run and enter msconfig. On the General tab click on expand and you
can enter the information to expand the wowexec.exe file. It's on the XP cd
in compressed form with the name wowexec.ex_
