Hello, I have installed three different adapters with 1394 ports and although each functions, as expected, my network dies. I have to remove the adapter, and run restore to bring the network back to operation. Browsing these news groups, I have not come across this specific issue and I am not able to find a KPR that speaks to it. I have a Dell 4600 and the 1394 cards I have tried include: SB Audigy 2, Ali Combo card, and Que! Assistance is appreciated.

I assume your Dell is a desktop ?

Check for IRQ conflict .. as I think 4600 series is a slim ones and only has
2 IRQ ports?

The bridging issue is something that I have seen mentioned in this group but unfortunately it is not the root of my issue. When I boot after installing the adapter, networking functions, XP finds the device and installs drivers successfully. Within a short time, my TCP/IP access fails to the network, although I can use 1394 to move data from my camera. Looking at device manager, I do not see any conflicts. The 1394 shows up as a network card but disabling it does not help

I have even tried installing a USB wireless network key and it is not able to reach the net. It appears that something on the software side of things is wedged, not knowing where to send traffic but I cannot figure it out

There are a few event log entries but I am not sure if they relate to this issue (I need to determine if they are transient, even when things are working..). One example:
Event Type: Warnin
Event Source: Dhc
Event Category: Non
Event ID: 100
Date: 5/22/200
Time: 9:09:36 P
User: N/
Computer: SPIDE

I have an Intel Pro/100E NIC. I haven’t tried NIC tests while this issue exists, so that is one place to start

Open the Network Connections folder and see whether the system create
a network bridge between the 1394 connection and the local are
network connection. If it did, that could be the problem. In tha
case, right click and delete the network bridge
