1394 between two xp machines?

Hi,
I have two XP machines with ethernet connections and 1394 ports. I can
ping each machine from the other by using their ethernet IP addresses.
When I connect the 1394 cable between the two both get assigned a new
IP address on the 1394 ports starting with 169.245.x.x with subnet
masks 255.255.0.0. But I can't ping either machine using these new 169
ip addresses. When I remove the 1394 cable this assignment goes away
so it seems the 1394 ports work on both sides but there is no
communication using the same. Any ideas what I am missing ?

Thanks.

Those are the addresses you get when you have DHCP configured, but no server
is available. Try configuring the IP's by hand and see if that works.

Hope that helps,

Jim
