I have loaded an evaluation copy upgrade to a computer and would like to
purchase a product key to make it permanent. Is this possible or do I have
to go to the store and get the whole enchilada?

Don't let others tell you what to do. Stick to your original plan and do as
you suggested, IMO. Vista, especially for less than high-tekkie types needs
to mature more first, same as XP did, 98 did, and so on. Besides, I'm not
even certain you meant XP; you weren't specific about WHAT evaulation copy
you were talking about.

It really depends on what program you're talking about. Your best bet is to
contact Microsoft or to hope for one of the very knowledgeable MVP's to step
in here. Are you referring to XP or another MS product? They are all
available in trial versions.
Actually, if you check around the documentation or on the site where you
originally downloaded it, there is likely to be answers to your questions
right there.

If XP was on SP 1,000, 000 it would still not respond, error, error,
error... It's Rubbish!!

Was beta testing Vista for around 6-7 months & even then it was more stable
then XP ever was/is

Vista don't use plain text passwords, has stability, better security... &
beats XP in every way.. There are only 2 things that let Vista down & they
are: Windows Firewall & Windows Defender

Why go for an OS which isn't that good when you can have a better one?

I was lucky because I downloaded Vista from MSDN using my MSDN Platinum
Subscription

Spice. Do yourself a favour & bypass XP. You won't be sorry

I jumped on XP the day it was released.

Vista? NO WAY. Too many problems.

Might try it in a year or so. Might just stick with XP.

Spice, Newbie Coder gave you a link to answer your question about an
evaluation version of XP.

As to whether you should go with XP or Vista all depends on the hardware.
If you are just now moving to XP, and this is an older system that had been
running 98 or ME, you would be best sticking with XP, assuming that the
hardware can run XP well.

Vista runs well if it's on the right hardware. The biggest problem right
now is drivers. Hardware manufacturer's are behind the curve. If the
hardware has Vista drivers that are stable, then it can run great. I'm
running it on a 5yr old system with hardly any issues.

In any event one needs to do research before making any kind of OS change.
