100% cpu usage - 70+% spoolsv service

Hello, I have narrowed the problem to the spoolsv
service. If I stop this service CPU usage returns to 0-
5%, when started back spoolsv takes 70+% and total CPU
usage goes to 100%. Running XP Home SP2. have checked
for viruses and adware. Please advise.

Thanks

Check with your printer manufacturer's web site for an updated Windows
XP driver for your printer. Download and install this if there is
one.

If that does not resolve the issue then open Control Panel - Printers
and Faxes. Right-click on each printer entry and select Delete.

When all printers have been deleted reboot the computer and then
reinstall your printer if it is not automatically detected and
reinstalled on the reboot.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I've already tried
that solution. I deleted all printers from the system,
with NO printers installed, as long as the spoolsv is
started, the system is slammed (100% CPU usage).

Thanks

About all I can suggest is that you run SERVICES.MSC and change the
startup for spoolsv to Manual instead of Automatic. That will
prevent it from launching at startup but you may not be able to print
until you do launch it.

I know this is a kludgy work-around at best but I can't find anything
at all that refers to this problem or anything similar to it.

Good luck
