10/100/1000 etherenet

I was under the impression that cat5e eithernet cable would work for
10/100/1000.

So, I was surprised when I bought an cat5e cable that the package said it
was for 10/100 only.

Is the packaging just not up to date or is there an issue with cat5e and
1000 ethernet? If there is an issue, what cable should you use?

Thanks
Bob

I use Cat6 for my gigabit ethernet, but Cat5e is rated for gigabit speed.

CAT5e will work for many Gigabit Ethernet uses but it's up to the
manufacturer of the cable to decide what they will certify it for. If they
say 10/100 only ... I would not argue with them and look for cables that do
support 10/100/1000.
