(this is probably rather silly)
I want to multiply all numbers in a particular column with -1. Is there an
easy way.

Put -1 in an empty cell
edit|copy

Select your range of numbers to modify
Edit|paste special|values and multiply

Clean up that cell with the -1 in it.
 
Copy the -1 and then select the column contents, r-click, Paste Special,
Multiply.
