(1)2GB vs (2)1GB

Hi Folks,

Can somebody explain to me how big a difference I'd experience if I
install (1)2GB stick of PC5400 DDR2 rather than (2)1GB sticks?

You wont notice any difference! Its very small.....

if your cpu is 64bit get the 1 stick with 2 gigs
since it can support up to 128 gb, you will need all the slots you can get.

I would get a 2 gig chip even if I had 32 bit....

especialy if you have only 2 slots.. because 32 bit can go up to 4gb (but it
will really use
something like 3+ of that)

Remember.. the future is now!

You won't experience any difference. The main reason for choosing
individual sticks is that if one dies you can easily replace it while
still having a working system. The decision also depends on whether you
think you'll want to add more RAM in the future and how many RAM slots
there are.

Ken,

If you install the 2 sticks your memory (subject to motherboard/BIOS
etc) will be able to run in dual channel mode. This will give you a
performance improvement. However unless you are running seriously
memory and CPU bound operations you are unlikely to see much
difference in your day to day browsing, using office applications or
general PC work.
This is covered to some degree here

Depends on the mobo architecture. Perfectly matching pairs of sticks are
necessary to enable certain functionalities of some modern motherboards.
Check your mobo's specs.
