0x80070005: Access is denied When scheduling a task in XP Home

When I attempt to schedule a backup task in XP Home edition (SP2) I get the
error
0x80070005: Access is denied. According to the article below Microsoft has a
fix that will be released in the next XP SP.

Article ID : 884573
Last Review : November 23, 2005

Does anyone have a fix for this now? I tried online support through MS to
get the fix but I have an OEM version of XP and the do not wish to talk to me!

Thanks.

Scheduled Tasks requires a passworded account. You can create a new user
account to use with Scheduled Tasks.

Additionally when the Task Scheduler service runs a job by using a specific
account, the Task Scheduler service tries to determine whether this account
is also the account of the current logged-on user. If the account is that of
the current logged-on user, the security context of the scheduled task is
mapped to the security context of that user. This process directs scheduled
jobs to that user's desktop.

Scheduled Tasks|Advanced|View Log may provide some details. If the job
connects to another machine you may need to add the user/ group 'logon as
batch job' rights (server side). Control Panel|Admin Tools|Local Security
Policy\Local Policies\User Rights Assignments
"Log on as a batch job"

If the task completes but the job does not then there is a problem in the
job itself. Remember that if it involves network resources to make sure the
user account has permissions to the resources and also use UNC paths as
mapped drives won't natively exist when no one is logged on.

Try creating the scheduled task with the username NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and
see if that works.

Also, if you need the hotfix, call Microsoft Product Support at (800)
936-8479 and inquire about obtaining the hotfix for KB article 884573. They
should be able to send you it via e-mail free of charge.

I hope this helps, have a nice day :)

I am also having same problem when trying to schedule Norton AV automatic
LiveUpdate to run.

I have a new pc with Windows XP Media edition.

I have read the MS Knowledge base report, which seems to recommend not to
install the Hotfix until they have resolved the problem and created a proper
fix.

I am therefore concerned - if I don't put the hotfix in now, my LiveUpdate
must be run manually. I also do not know when MS will resolve the problem and
how I will be notified (my Windows update does not appear to be running
either).

Am at a bit of a loss what to do... appreciate any guidance.
