0x00000044 error on HP D330 with XP

We have a network of 400 PCs. The PCs log into Novell servers using
Novell Client 4.9 sp1a and also a Windows NT server, administering the
domain. All PCs have McAfee antivirus, which is automatically updated.
We have recently been rolling out HP D330 PCs running Windows XP SP1
(with all patches and updates applied). They come with 2 x 128MB of
RAM and we have installed an extra single 256MB module in each.

A number of these new PCs have started automatically rebooting,
approximately once a week (usually on a Thursday!). The PCs seem to be
clustered in particular areas and were put in at similar times, but
are not all from the same batch. On restart, a message is displayed
informing the user that the PC has recovered from a serious error. On
examination of the system and software event logs, we get the
following:

Save Dump, Event IDs 1001 and 1003, "The computer has rebooted from a
bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000044 (0x81a5b878, 0x00000d60,
0x00000000, 0x0000000)."

Finished dump check

We have tried removing additional memory modules, updating network,
chipset, audio and graphics drivers and updating the BIOS. We have run
out of things to try! :-( Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,

Instead of updating drivers, does the problem still occur if you disable the
sound card in the hardware profile?
