0x00000024, Windows won't start at all

Hi,

I just got this computer today and I haven't done much with it, so I'm very
frustrated and discouraged as to the quality of it. It's a Dell Inspiron
1300, so that right there tells you how "quality" it is, but I got it for
free from a scholarship, so I can't complain. Anyway, here's I get the
regular blue screen, Windows shut down to prevent further damage,
Disable/restart anti-virus defrag and backup utilities, Check the hard drive
and run CHKDSK /F

But I can't do that. Because I can't even boot in safe mode. It stops
everytime with
*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x823DFEF0, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

Because Dell thinks computers are invincible, they expect you to be able to
restore off Norton Ghost, which I can't use because I can't even boot
Windows. So I don't have a install or recovery disc to boot off of. I also
uninstalled Norton Ghost because I'm not going to pay for it after my 90 days
are up and I think that uninstalling it was the cause of this error. Thanks
Dell for that convenient backup system!

Eh... Just noticed that this topic is double posted but with different
message. I got an error saying that my first post hadn't worked so I made
this thread. Sorry about that, but that right there shows you why I like
Linux better. Windows dies the first day and Microsoft tells me my thread is
lost then posts it anyway. grrr...

What did Dell tech support say?

Sorry, haven't called them yet. I have a friend who has a boot disc for me,
so I'm going to try that sometime today when I'm not so busy with classes. I
kind of realized when I created this thread that I'd either need a boot disc
or to call Dell, but I really needed to vent the frustration of having a new
computer that doesn't work and could be fixed if Dell would've sent a restore
disc. Honestly, they probably don't save a lot of money by not pressing
discs, but they're screwing their customers. Why would I restore my computer
from within Windows if it's working correctly?

So why are "venting" at the rest of us users? You were given a PC that
got a file clobbered, stuff happens, life goes on.

Again, sorry. I realize that this isn't the place to do it. I'm not
complaining about it, but I'm just pointing out that Dell doesn't really have
the customer in mind and that really frustrates me considering that they're
the top seller of PCs. This isn't the place to say that either, but I wasn't
thinking completely straight. I think I was just looking for a good boot
disc to try. I'm trying UBCD4Win. It's building right now on a different
computer.

Dell WILL/DOES provide CD's to their customers. The DELL's that I have
all have Operating System CD's. I suggest you find out where your CD is
or why YOU didn't get one.

Hi,

I solved the problem. I downloaded UBCD4Win and ran Check Disk. It
reported and fixed errors in the filesystem. Unfortunately, I'm afraid this
isn't a proper fix for other people because you have to have either a Windows
setup disc, or another computer with the Windows setup files on it in order
to build the boot disc. I was lucky enough to have another computer with
just that. I feel like a jerk now, but at least the problem is solved so
other people can fix it. I still might just call Dell to get a CD so I don't
have to go through this again if the filesystem has errors, however unlikely
that is. I actually found a sheet of paper in the box stating that there is
no recovery/setup CD because I apparently don't need one. Go figure, I've
had tons of these CDs lying around for different computers that I never
needed to recover.

by pressing the CTRL+F11, you will be able to access your backup image. You
dont need to be inside windows to do it. And this back up is independent with
the norton ghost 10.0 . yeah it is made by Symantec, but not a norton ghost.
