Zoom PCI Cable modem 5001 with Win XP home SP2

This modem worked well with this computer and win98. Recently installed
WinXP and now the modem works perfectly when in safe mode with networking.
When booted up normally the modem shows solid green on the status light,
installed correctly in the hardware profile, and a limited connectivity
warning on the notification area. No internet connectivity is available in
Windows Normal mode. Local traceroute returns multiple timeouts (*) on the
first three hops. The troubleshooting process so far has included three
installs of Win XP to a formatted drive, All drivers are updated to the
newest that we can find, BIOS settings have been reset to factory and then
tweaked again, all firewall software has not been installed at this point,
windows firewall disabled. Comcast cable tech support has spent hours on the
phone and determined that the issue is definately software or hardware on the
home end, they show the modem talking to their equipment without issue.

Honestly, you should get rid of the internal PCI cable modem and
replace with an external cable modem.
