zonealarm

Not at all. Lots of other folks are using that firewall with this beta.
Microsoft Antispyware does NOT replace the firewall.

There is information in the help file (search on firewall or ports) on what
executables need outbound access through a firewall for updates and
reporting functions.

I'm getting "false positives" when zonealarm initialises
for the first time after a recent upgrade. I'm advising
friends & family to deploy this tool, and most of them also
use zonealarm. It would be wise from Microsoft to recognise
zonealarm updates as safe, it would be a sign of maturity.
I'm not affiliated with zonealarm, just use it and
recommend it, as I now recommend this great tool.

I doubt that the lack of recognition of these updates is due to anything
except the whole process of creating lists of known objects and getting
notification for such objects before they are distributed is new to
everyone. If that's what you mean by "maturity"--I suspect this process has
some more time to go. Accurate recognition demands precise details in
advance of deployment. These must come from the vendor.

You are advising folks to deploy a beta product--minor issues such as this
are part of what you get in betas as you should know.

I don't know if this helps but ZA goes through a learning period and can put
some of your url's into the trusted zone. I'm guessing that eventually MAAS
will also have this policy and ZA will not be bothered. Remember this is a
primitive beta. It's a good one as far as it goes.
