I have the free Zonealarm software and have a question. This supportsoft
sprtcmd
tried to get through my firewall, should I let it come in? Is it friend or
foe? This happened twice a few days apart.

Hi Cyrus, welcome back,

Have a look here
http://www.answers.com/Supportsoft sprtcmd

Have you scanned your system for malware (spyware, adware, trojans, and
other pests) using other tools, like Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, a-Squared, ewido,
Spyware Doctor, Pest Patrol (online)?

Donload and Install SuperAntiSpyware (Free)

I suggest you visit the Zone Alarm Forum as some users may have experienced
similar phenomena.

cyrus,

You just installed the new Dell Support Center software, correct? I just
picked it up from there also. So now I'm looking for a picture of Michael
Dell to see if he's got an honest face, and if I'd buy my next computer
from him.

Yes Dave, I do have the Dell Support Center software, so does that mean I can
let Supportsoft SPRTCMD through the firewall? By the way Engel did you ever
get high speed DSL yet? The only software I have now is Spyware blaster,
Windows defender, and AVG free. I got rid of the other stuff you mention
because it was slowing down my computer. I only scan now with Spybot search
and destroy.

You know, I've had it on about 6 hours now and I permitted it's scripts to
run through once. And each time I re-boot it's driving me stark raving
nuts, with all these security alerts popping about it trying to run scripts
again from the various monitors I have installed (eyeing your security
toolkit enviously.) So I'm thinking of trashing this thing, because,
frankly, Dell never gave me much worthwhile information in the three years
I've had this machine (OK, maybe a BIOS update or two).

I might give it another day or so, as I doubt their doing anything terribly
underhanded (just think of that PR problem) They have been known to use
some over the edge purchased software code (injection stuff as I remember)
in the past that regularly lit up my Windows Defender system event logs
when this product was just called plain old "Dell Support" minus the
"Center", and the human (yes, there are some) Dell support folks meanwhile
claimed to know nothing of it in their forums. I think I'm growing
cynical...(

Hi cirus,

I'm almost there.

I stop the annual renewal from PeoplePC, <http://www.peoplepc.com/> the
yearly fee is (was) $ 119.40, las month I pay $ 10.95 the regular monthly
fee.

I'm looking now DSLExtreme <http://www2.dslextreme.com/> Basic/DSL for $
12.95 /mo. 768/384kbps, OR the Standar DSL $ 14.95
<https://secure.dslextreme.com/Medusa/DSL/Packages.aspx>

I'm now reading the terms
<http://www2.dslextreme.com/Misc/Terms/Terms.aspx?type=Drj/f9CWu/Q=>

I have AT&T for mi phone service. So, Maybe you can tell me of other hidden
expense ;-)

Probably next month I will have DSL

Until then, take carem and happy surfing the net.

Does AT&T have their own DSL service? Those rates look good to me, and the
bit I could see about what they provide looked fine too.

I'd go for the lowest rate and see if you are happy with it. I suspect you
will be, but if you want faster, I doubt they will charge anything to make
the change--just the new monthly rate after it takes effect.

I didn't read the terms. There will probably be taxes of some sort on the
DSL service. Someplace like DSLReports might have a forum where you can ask
what the typical final bill is for that kind of service.
