ZoneAlarm Problem.

Mike

I have recently installed ZoneAlarm on my system. Now the other computer on
my network can't access the internet. MSN was used from the other computer
but ZoneAlarm won't let it use the connection. I've tried to change the
configuration but can't get it to work. Could someone please explain what I
need to do to get the other computer on my home network to be able to work
through ZoneAlarm?

Much Obliged

find out the IP of the other PC and add it to the trusted zone in zone
alarm. You might have to set it as a static IP for this to work.

I believe there are some issues w/ ZA and Internet Connection Sharing.
Google for that exact phrase, and check in the ZA forum too. Also, a new
release of ZA came out this past week (8NOV04), you might want to try it;
do a clean install, not an update.

The machine which I've installed ZA is the one with the Internet connection
the other computer accesses the internet through it. I've got MSN Messenger
added to the programmes that can access the internet, but it only seems to
recognise the program on my system. I've also added the IP address of the
other computer to the Trusted list but it seems to have made no difference.

i wonder if teh fact that msn messngr is a chat has significance? i think chat uses a differnt port than nntp, smtp, pop, and http

OTOH, ZA never seems to need special settings to use those.

maybe the comp.security.firewalls group can give you clues.

also lower in the this thread, someone gave suggestion of possilbe problem wiht ics. just these titles (basic google serach
below) suggest ICS can be wrangled to work wiht ZA???

If you have the free version it does not support ICS.

here's za's page on that topic:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/support/techNote_9.jsp

but really i think most ppl would be better off snuffing ICS, and getting a hardwired router wiht SPI. the'res almost zero f@rking
around wiht network settings, besides allowing tcp/ip sharing (whihc seems scary, but is fine if the router is doing it's job,
IMO). i had only to install router per instructins, adn put all computer's in Za's trusted zones (as IPs or masks)
