Zip file error

I'm new to pc's. I have WinZip installed. Have never used
it. I have been trying to download "objects" over the
internet to install into my Sims game. When ask where to
install to,I entered "Save" and then "Desktop". After
download, when I clicked on the desktop icon,it read
" Compressed (zipped)Folder Error" and "The compressed
(zipped)Folder is invalid or corrupted".
I then tried downloading it again, but the second time
when asked where to put it, I clicked on "Open", I
immediately received the message " Compressed(zipped)
Folder Error".
I have received this message from 3 sites I have tried
to download from. What am I doing wrong now?

Have you been able to open any other zip files on your system besides those
you've downloaded?
