You've got mail

B

Beau Bourne

Now that I am operating out of Windows Mail, is there something that
notifies me that I have mail, like........... an envelope turning in the
corner of my screen that states "You've got Mail", or some sound that alerts
me on the screen that I have incoming mail?

Thanks,
Beau-Beau

Search the Internet for a 'You've got mail' wav file and then set it as the
default sound for incoming e-mail in Windows Sounds..

I have also been trying to find something, anything, that alerts me that I
have mail, without having to open the window. I have been told by a reliable
source that its something you see in American films. No-one seems to know how
to get it here. If you or anyone else finds out, please let me know.Windows
vista.

In order for Windows Mail to notify you that new mail has arrived, it needs
to be running. If you don't want its main window to be open, you can minimize
it to the taskbar, or with this add-on you can minimize it to a tray icon:

You can assign any sound file to the notification, including the famous
"You've got mail" which was developed by AOL.

Yes, the phrase "You've got mail" is a bizarre term that Hollywood people
use. It is improper grammar. If you want to communicate with programmers,
you will be more effective if you use good grammar, not language from the
state of confusion where the governor can't even pronounce his own state
properly. And if you think I should not be criticizing that state, note that
I live in the state of confusion too.

Please use proper grammar.

True, but we're going by the actual wording of how it was
featured in the movie title by that name. :)

The need for language, first verbal then much later on written, derived from
one reason and one reason only....... to be able to communicate with others.
As long as message is understood by either parties, language has done it's
job.
Grammar , as well as other beautiful verses invented by mankind, are no more
than putting several coats of expensive paint on a car which has been
running smoothly anyway, with or without the paint job.
I personally know a couple of " hacklers " who will not stand a chance of
composing an essay of less than 50 words without giving an English teacher
colossal headache.
Literature requires grammar. Computer language does not.

Grammar such as "You've got mail" grates on some people like fingernails on
a chalkboard. Those people affected in that manner might choose to ignore
everything associated with it. People are free to ignore this request and I
am free to ignore them.

Many people don't understand why ALL CAPITALS are a problem yet it irritates
many people. Since it irritates people, it is better to avoid use of ALL
CAPITALS (note that I am using capitals for two words, not all words here).
