Your Computer?

I have been having computer problems since 8-31 or so. I went to Internet
Options, Security and found under "Select a Web content zone to specify its
security settings" that something new had been added along with the Internet,
Local intranet, Trusted sites, Restricted sites and now there is "Your
Computer". It will not let me set any security for it and I don't know where
it came from. What should I do?

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

How do I find and install updated definitions separately?

If you read the information at the link I gave you, you'll see that you
need to get tools and updates from a different, known-clean computer
with an Internet connection and some way of transferring the tools and
update files.

There are links for all the programs I suggest using at the website.
Please read the warning at the website, which I will repeat here:
removing malware can be very time-consuming, difficult, and require a
lot of skill and other equipment.

You have three choices with an infested machine:

1. Learn how to clean it up yourself - sometimes not an easy process.
2. Take the machine to a professional.
3. Back up your data and clean-install Windows.

Then afterwards, practice "Safe Hex" so as not to get infected again.

What is meant by "Practice Safe Hex?"

It is a play on words.
