Yet another outlook 2000 vs outlook 2003 question

Dave Munday

I am running Exchange 2003 Server SP2 with clients on Office XP under this
configuration I have some users who also have a pop3 account for extrernal
email.

This works fine and the internal messages and external messages get routed
correctly.

One workstation was recently upgraded to Office 2003 and since that date I
have been in an either or situation whereby the upgraded client - depending
on which account is selected as the default - will only successfully send
from either the Exchange or POP3 account. Failures are identified as non
routable .

I guess I have done something wrong I have tried many settings on the client
but to no avail.

If anyone could provide a clue as to where I am going wrong it would be
appreciated.

thanks for your time

Dave

I'd delete and re-create the Outlook profile. Mixing account types (Exchange
& Internet mail) wasn't supported in any version of Outlook prior to OL2002,
so something may have gone funky in the profile.

Also - if at all possible, it would be *much* better to avoid this config
anyway, even in OL2002/2003 - let Exchange handle all your business mail.
For personal mail, if you want to allow it on your network at all, let 'em
use webmail.

Many thanks for your reply, I take it that in theory this should work?

my skills are comming along but I am a few weeks away from configuring my
server to handle email from the internet :)
