Yellow Shield With Black Exclamation Mark - 0% Downloading in Task

Everytime I boot up my computer I get the Yellow Shield with the Black
Exclamation Mark and it states that it has 0 % Downloading and does not
progress to say 1%, 2% etc.. Then it goes, away. After another boot up the
yellow shield comes up again, and it states that it has 0% Downloading, then
it goes away again. This process continues with every boot up.

Do you guys know what might be going on?

THANKS

Probably the icon for automatic updates.

Under startup tab in the System Configuration Utility in the startup item I
found avgcc and zlclient. Is there something else, I should be looking for?
Thanks

Yeah, I think its the icon for automatic update, but the thing is that I
would assume that I should see some progress in updating. Everytime, I
reboot its shows up and it is a 0% and no progress.

THANKS

Try to empty this folder (i.e. delete everything from it but keep the
folder as it is) and see if it helps:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

It should download everything again that is required for your system. I
hope you have a fast internet connection!

Correction ... cleaning out the SoftwareDistribution tree does not cause
EVERYTHING to be downloaded again. Only the current items not yet
installed. The poster made it sound like ALL PAST patches/updates installed
on your system would be downloaded/installed again. Only missing ones are.

Each time the yeelow shield appears then disappears, entries are kept in the
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file. Check the last few lines and see what
happened.

You may still have to reset everything back ... but first check to see what
the error is.

I said: "It should download everything again that is required for your
system. I hope you have a fast internet connection!" The critical
words are: "that is required for your system." Does this sound like
"ALL PAST patches/updates installed on your system would be
downloaded/installed again." English is certainly a very complicated
language as often said by foreign students!
