Yahoo POP3 - Err Server is not ready

M

Mark Pfeifer

Is it just me or are other people getting frequent issues attempting to
retrieve mail from Yahoo's POP servers? Over the past couple weeks, I have
been getting error messages stating "-ERR Server is not ready..." and people
get bounced mail stating server is not available.

Anyone else? Ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I have been getting this same error consistently ALL THE TIME for that
past week or so. It is excruciatingly annoying as Outlook pops up a
"try again" enter password box every time. After a few tries everything
seems to work.

At first I thought it was an Outlook bug... like something had gotten
corrupted. But, it seems to be totally Yahoo's fault.

I don't even have Outlook scheduled to check Yahoo that often (once
every 15 mins or so)... so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have sent several support requests to Yahoo but they never
acknowledge that there is a problem. Every time they reply, they ask
for more information (possibly because they have to respond to support
requests within some time frame and this way they "fool" their
management).

This is inexcusable.

I never had this problem but since last two days I am getting this annoying
error. I followed the instructions in knowledge base to delete the key in
registry and adding the password again but of no use. I suspect this to be a
Yahoo problem.

Any chance you have moved to their new beta site? I wonder if people
get switched to new servers when they switch the web front end.

Thanks
Mark

I have a paid Yahoo account and I've had trouble recently.

I haven't switched to their new web mail front end. And, I've been
getting the problem (A LOT) for the past week. I'm also a paying
customer... and the bug is extraordinarily annoying as Outlook 2003
reacts to it by prompting with username/password box.

Yes and it started when I installed Outlook 2002 after putting in a new hard
drive... It seems strange that it ONLY occurs on my home, Time Warner
Western Ohio network and not on the network at work. I suspect one of the
big network routers as I have different trace routes to the server.

Any of these familiar? 63.210.29.230 acts weird...

I have had the same trouble for the past week. I'm also a plus
customer and I am also in Ohio. Using this address for the mail server
I get the error less frequently than with pop.mail. yahoo.com, although
I still get it more than half the time:

pop.plus.mail.yahoo4.akadns.net

Unfortunately, yahoo3, yahoo5, etc are invalid host names. So who knows
what other hosts are part of the balancing act?

This is the route that works for me. I deleted the first 3 lines. For those
who don't know how to generate this report, I open a command window, and
enter at the prompt:

tracert pop.mail.yahoo.com >trace.txt

and then
notepad trace.txt

Tonight I was going to try the IP address for the "good" server listed
below, but I suspect like thaney it will still have problems.

I changed the pop address to 206.190.53.11 (the bad one) at work, where I do
not usually have a problem and viola, and the problem occurs. It is either
206.190.53.11 or the network router 63.210.29.230 that is causing the
problem.

63.210.29.230 is not behaving like any other router in the trace. It's not
the first time I found a bad network router... Now who do I tell?

How about "(e-mail address removed)" which seems to be the e-mail address for
the actual company hosting the servers.

This is working, at least for now. I changed the pop server to
216.136.173.10. I have logged in 10 times a row with no errors.

I have done this as well as it does seem to work. I have also called
Yahoo on this issue and was told it was escaleated to a level 3 tech
(for all the good that will do). Yesterday the supervisor I spoke to
said that they have received this complaint quite a bit of late - and
the postings here over the last two days seems to indicate it a recent
problem.

I have been getting this "ERR server not ready" messages for - it seems
like - a week. It was driving me so crazy I had started accessing it
through a web interface. Thank you for giving me back my sanity.

Do you pay the 19.99 a yr for the mail plus. I dont and it worked for a year
then my computer crashed and i reinstall and not i cant get it to work. I saw
some where you had to pay 19:99 to be able to use outlook, anyone else seen
this or know about it

Correct. If you have a yahoo.com mail account, you need to have a paid
Yahoo account to be able to use Outlook to access it.
