"xyz is not a personal folders file" while trying to import ??

I recently chnaged my xp machine to another XP machine , backing up my emails
to a .pst file.

I am trying to import the .pst into Outlook and I keep getting the error
"The file C:\Email\Backup.pst is not a personal folders file"

I am using the same exact version of Office 2002 on my XP machine that I was
using on my previous XP machine.

When I setup Outlook on my new machine, I specified New Outlook Data File to
be a .pst file and to deliver new email to Personal Folders.

Any suggestions?

Import? Have you tried simply to use File / Open / Data file for Outlook
(.pst)?
If you succeed with that, you can move whatever content you want from the
opened pst file into your new installation.

Then whatever method you used to create that PST damaged it and it is not
usable. How did you create it? How did you transport it to the other PC?

If you moved your. Pst file by first writing it to CD, the file was set Read
Only and Outlook cannot use it. You must first set the file back to
read/write.

See,
Initially I clicked the File --> Archive and select the complete mail box
and archive it to a local pst file. Till that time my mails were on server.
Now I copied the pst file on a cd and tried to import those mails on new
machine by clicking File --> Import. I selected my pst file which is now on
my new machine and not "read-only". But i'm getting the rror as "The file
{Path\xyz.pst} is not a personal folder file."

you can contact me at (e-mail address removed) or 860.815.5880. Its kind of
very urgent.

You probably did not save all your data, then, becauise archiving is not
backup.

How? Was Outlook closed when you did?

those mails on new machine by clicking File --> Import.

Importing is NEVER the way to get data from a PST.

This is a fairly good indication that, when you burned the PST to CD, it
either was open or the burning software doesn't handle PSTs well and that
the PST is damaged beyond repair.

Ask here, get an answer here. Never include your real mail address in a
newsgroup and it's probably not the wisest to include a phone number,
either.
