Help

I keep getting a blocked application Change called
XPUPDATER.

I blocked it as I didnt know what it is but now get the
notice every 5 seconds and it is driving me nuts

Well, let it stay blocked, that sounds like a spyware program posing as a
legitimate Microsoft program. Restart in Safe mode and run a full system
scan at least two times. On the scan page, choose scan options > Full System
Scan.

Hi mate do you have any products made by Canon as there
is a driver update for there products called XP Updater
There is also a tool for web hosting from a company
called CPanel that uses a XP updater file for upgrading

I think its best you carry on blocking it to you can get
some info on it as i dont think its a windows file and
theres some similar named ones that are the result of
viruses and adware such as:

wupdater - wupdater.exe
Process Name: TrojanDownloader.Win32.Keenval

wupdate - wupdate.exe -
Process Name: Wengs adware

wupdt - wupdt.exe -
Process Name: IMISERV virus

wupdmgr - wupdmgr.exe -
Process Name: WORM_SPYBOT.B

winupdate - winupdate.exe
Process Name: RADO virus

updater - updater.exe
Process Name: AGOBOT-OT Worm

updmgr - updmgr.exe
Process Name: eUniverse.com Spyware

Heres just a few of them so best being cautious untill we
can identify what it is,I will post back if i can get
some info on it but never heard of it before so that
raises suspicions its not genuine,

I cannot find any genuine files called XPupdater unless
you use one of these:


The only ones i can find are the drivers for cannon

The upgrade file from CPanel

Antenna Audio X-plorer player (mp3)uses XP-updater for
data collection

But as Andre has pointed out if its XP Updater then this
opens up alot of different products but

Then this opens up alot of different products but not if
its XPUPDATER.exe as this isnt a known file not as far as
i know anyway so unless you use the products above i
would run the scans as Andre suggested in safe mode and
also when you are back in normal mode run a scan at
Trend's Housecall

Just incase you have any malware that MSAS isnt
detecting,If you have any more info on the file name
xpupdater just repost and we might be able to help more
also if you find anything on your system you are not sure
about upload the file to this address which using 12
virus engines to scan the file for malware
