XP's built in CD burning software

How do I deactivate it? I have a need to use cd-rw's as a floppy. I
found software(NTI FileCD) that has my drive as being compatible but
the drive isn't being recognized. Other brand name packet writing
software do not recognize it either. It burns cd-r's and cd-rw's ok
the regular way using their software.

All of my searches tell me that either the drive isn't compatible or a
bad ASPI layer. My system is an OEM box with restore cd's and I'm a
little leary about changing files that I can't easily grab back from
an install cd so I would like to try to turn off xp's built in feature
first if it's possible.

Right click the CD drive in Windows Explorer, select Properties, Recording
tab. You can turn it off there.
