XPe corruption with sudden power failure using flash module

Hi,

We have an XPe system running on an IDE flash module with a battery power
supply. We've had situations in which the battery goes dead suddenly and when
we reboot with a new battery, we get a BSOD indicating bad config list during
reboot.

Sudden power failures do not seem to corrupt Win XP systems running on a
hard drive. Does anyone know whether the XPe corruption is due to the fact
that it's XPe or is it due to running the system on a flash drive.

Is there any way to prevent such corruption with a sudden power failure.
Does anyone have any experience with this.

Thanks,

Art

Art,

We use XPe on CF, and initially deployed without EWF. We had frequent file
system corruptions due to sudden power loss. As you stated, these corruptions
did not occur nearly as frequently with a hard drive.

I attributed the corruptions to the much slower (Sometimes 10x) write speed
of the CF. It makes the "window" for corruption much greater. Eventually we
went to EWF protection of all OS-required files, and have not seen the
corruption issues since. EWF gives us other headaches, though, like updating
files and virus signatures...

Upgrade to FP2007 and use the new write filters available to resolve these
issues. Particularly FBWF comes to mind.
