XP Workstation Does Not Receive Print Notification Messages

I have a Windows XP workstation on my network in a Windows
domain. This station does not receive a print
notification messages when printing to a print queue on a
Win 2K server. I got the folowing nonsensical info from
the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

SYMPTOMS
When you print from a Windows XP-based client computer to
a network printer in a domain, you do not receive a print
notification message.

CAUSE
This problem occurs when name of the print job owner does
not match the name of the current user. For example, the
problem may occur if the current user name is "TestUser"
and the print job owner name is "testuser." The string
comparison function that is called for the print job is
case sensitive.

The print job owner is ALWAYS the same as the user thus
the above does not make any sense.

Has anyone encountered this problem and fixed it?

If the Internet Connection Firewall is enabled, you will not receive any
print notifications unless one opens up the sharing ports on the client.
