XP won't shut down after SP2

I just installed SP2 and now my computer won't shut down unless I hit the
power button. When I hit START / SHUT DOWN, nothing happens. The computer
goes back to the desktop like nothing ever happened. I have left the
computer for an hour, thinking that maybe there was a program in the
background, taking a long time to shut down, but it still won't shut down. I
have tried to RESTART and the same thing happens.

Thanks for the information. However, those solutions seem to be for a system
that reboots at shutdown. My system does NOTHING when I try to shut it down.
I don't get the blue, logging off screen, nothing. I just go straight back
to my desktop. Is the link below for my problem as well?

You may have sometype of spyware that is blocking the shutdown.
