I have an older Gateway that originally came with Windows ME. I upgraded a
couple of years ago to XP home and shortly thereafter bought high speed
internet service through Comcast (cable). When I ordered Comcast the tech
couldn't make an ethernet connection to the router, so he gave me a USB
connection instead. This has worked fine, but now I want to set up a
wireless router and to do so, I need an ethernet connection. I assumed the
old NIC card must be bad, so I just bought a new card (Dynex) and installed
it. However, XP does not recognize the new card. It doesn't pull up the
wizard, and the card doesn't show up in Device manager. I have tried it in
different slots and that also didn't work. I also updated the chipset
drivers on Intel's website as the Gateway folks thought this may be the
problem - this did not work either.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
