XP will not start after SP2 update

XP gets to loading screen then flashes a blue screen with white characters at
the top (too short in duration for any chance to read any of it) then
restarts the computer.

When this happens, attempt to press the Pause/Break
button to pause the screen for a possible chance at
reading it.

Perhaps a software/hardware conflict after installing SP2? My grandma's
computer did that before, but it was because her memory wasn't good. We had
to drop to CPU frequency to get this to be fixed... but since you said after
installing SP2, I doubt your memory went bad.
