XP Uptime Quickie :)

R

R. L.

Just wrote another fun one with AutoIt :)

Uptime Quickie

It calculates and displays how long the system has been
running and its start time. Uptime result can be put to
clipboard. There is also a message-box mode display
available.

It works fine in XPpro, and I think it should be fine on
XPhome.
Perhaps people who use NT could tell me if it works with NT?
Not for 9x user (sorry).

(no install, no registry entries)

(there was an extra line in the script that I forgot to delete
leading to the day number did not get processed :p )

I also did a fix on the log file copy format.

Could you give me the start day? Is it the same as what you
state before 2004/06/25, is that start day got reported
correctly and shown correctly (in that order)? And, what OS do
you use?

Thanks.

start time 2004/06/25 20:05:35 correct
Current 2004/06/29 11:47 (note : without the seconds shown )

Uptime measured at 2004/06/29 11 : 47:25 is -150 day(s) 15 hour(s) 42
minute(s)

OS XP Pro

On W2K : No display for the start time , strange result for the
difference .

Are you using something like
the current date - last boot time ?

Yes, I am. In fact, no secret, you can find it in this entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
\Prefetcher", "StartTime"

And, you know what, *really* strange thing going on there. I
run the script for about 10 times and I suddenly, successfully
replicated your problem (I got -150 days as well). I double
checked, triple checked and checked and checked and calculated
every thing by hand and am sure that the date difference
equation itself is right. I am, however, getting very unstable
reading results from time to time (one time the problem suddenly
cleared up but I don't know why). As if the more I run the
script, the calulation result get more crazy and inaccurate.

AutoIt (the scripting language I am using) is not doing the math
correctly and reliably (especially the substraction, I got 181 -
179 = -150, how could that be??).

I *think* it could be a bug, or some hidden thing I am not
aware of about that language (the gui version of AutoIt is still
in beta). Perhaps other Autoit-er can give me some pointers?
For now, I will have to sleep on it for a while :(

Ok, I uploaded another version, altered the order of a few
lines to made the system not skiping the math steps. Using
the start date that you gave me, I finally got this:

Uptime measured at 2004/06/29 06:35:46 is 4 day(s) 10 hour(s)
31 minute(s)

Perhaps download it again to see if it works on your XP box?

As for 2000, I don't have a system that I can dig around in
its registry, so I guess it won't work for 2k then.

It is ok , now .

For the W2K , thought you did something else than reading the Registry ,
for getting the start time .

Thanks
