XP takes 3 mins 10 sec to access win98

Hi Group:
I have seen some great answers on this site.
I'm running XP home with SP1 and Win 98SE on a local network.
The win98 uses nwlink ipx/spx netbios to access the XP and works
always.
I've used the network wizard on both machines. I'm using a D-link Hub
and a cable internet connect. Both machines easily connect to the
internet thru the hub.
The XP has for protocol:
nwlink net bios, nwling ipx/spx net bios and tcp/ip.
When I try to read a drive on win98, the XP takes 3 mins 10 sec to
access the win98. Then everything reads and transfers normally.
Sometimes win98 stays accessible other times I have the 3 min wait
again.
The task manager says the network call not responding, cancelling the
call, machine hangs up and needs rebooting.

Thanks for all the help, sorry for being so long winded

Hi Joe,

Try turning off the WebClient service in the services
area. To do this, right-click "My Computer" and select
MANAGE, then select SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS, then
services. Scroll thru the list to WebClient and set it to
MANUAL, then STOP the service. This help me with browsing
an NT network that used to take 2 minutes to see the
resource. Good Luck.

Tom
