XP Start IE expanded

Help menu gives inadequate info on starting IE in
expanded mode for XP. It says...

To start a program as a taskbar button or as a maximized
window
Right-click the program you want to start as a taskbar
button or as a maximized window.
You can find programs on the Start menu, in Windows
Explorer, or in My Computer.

Click Properties, and then click the Shortcut tab.
In the Run list, click Minimized if you want the program
to open as a taskbar button, or click Maximized if you
want the program to open as a full-screen window.

Hi, Carol.

This is one of the most-asked questions and most-complained-about behavior
of IE. :>(

There are many fixes, but it seems that none of them ALWAYS work.

The most basic fix is to open IE, make sure the window is not already
maximized, stretch the window to fill the screen, then close the IE window.
This works if this is the LAST - that is, the ONLY - IE window open at the
time. And IE remembers only until the next time you shut down the LAST IE
window. In other words, if a small IE window is the last one you close in
your next IE session, THAT is the size that IE will remember the NEXT time
it opens.

And there are many ways to open IE: click the icon on the Desktop or Quick
Launch; click a link here in OE; click a link on a web page...and other
ways. IE seems to have a separate memory for windows opened in each of
these ways, so you can spend all day opening IE by different methods,
resizing the window, and closing IE. But the next session, some web page
will pop up an odd-sized window - and you'll have to do it all over again.
:>(

Even the Run Maximized setting works - sometimes.

If you find a better way, please let us ALL know.
