the usb fix on my motherboard install cd gives "installation failure"
message when i try to install it on xp-sp2 and does not proceed to
install usb2.0 driver.
it gave no such error with sp1.
the intel site provides the usbfix for sp1..

comp config:
intel 845gbv motherboard
p4 1.5 ghz processor

i have a nokia 3220 which uses the dku5 data cable to connect to comp
via pcsuite.
earlier i could access the phone via the comm-ports (had xp with sp1).
i had to install dku5 driver and a prolific usb-to-serial driver. then
when i plugged in the dku5 cable it showed the normal msgs- new
hardware found- prolific usb to serial- hardware installed.

after installing xp-sp2,comp does not detect the cable and cannot
access the phone.

urgent
plz respond

ps: link to download usb fix for xp-sp2 will be really appreciated

If, after installing SP2, you did not install Intel's chipset driver
(INFINST), you may want to do that.

Go to the Intel site and navigate according to your chipset and OS. You
can run the SETUP file, but note that if this is being installed after
some other drivers have already been installed on your system (i.e. as
opposed to immediately after the installation of Windows), it is
recommended that you download the ZIP version and use the step-by-step
process by unzipping the downloaded file to a folder and then doing a
driver update on each PCI related component in Device Manager, pointing
to said folder as the source of the new driver.

If you need more detail that I've given above just ask, or you can try
to read the documentation that comes with this INFINST file.

Thanks dude, but I already done that ..

I downloaded the following stuff form the intel site last week as per
my motherboard and os
- infinst_enu.exe
- iata_enu (think it is the application accelerator)
- wdm3516b_Cadenza (sound)
- usbXPfix
- usb2.0
I installed them in that order after intstalling xp pro with sp2.

The error given by the usb fix downloaded form intel site :
"Q312370 Setup Error -
Setup has detected that service pack version of system installed is
newer than update you are applying to it.
You can only install update on comp with no service packs installed."
The setup then terminates.

The following note is present in the readme for usbXPfix :
"Note: The USB 2.0 Patch for Microsoft* Windows* XP can be installed
before or after the intel* iNF utility, but MUST installed before
trying to install the USB 2.0 driver."

When installing the usb2.0 drivar this msg is displayed on start :
"installsheild wizard will now install usb2.0 driver. plz verify that
you have installed necessary qfe before this install."
the setup then proceeds to do something, but I dont think it installs
the usb driver cause it doesnt ask me restart my comp.

Will it work if I install the usb driver (and other drivers) on xp
without sp, and then put sp2..
ie Will installing sp2 after the motherboard drivers affect the usb
driver ?
But preferably I wont have to do it that way cause it would mean
installing a lot of stuff again.
Knowing windows something else might stop working!

I cant seem to find the usb fix for sp2.
So I really hope someone has a solution to this mess..

Do you have any other evidence that you have USB problems? Do other
devices fail? If not, perhaps it is worthwhile taking another approach,
that perhaps the particular hardware and/or associated software require
a patch to work properly under SP2. This wouldn't be the first
occurrence for something like this.
