EHCI USB 2.0 controller problems

Hi I'm having major problems trying to get my USB ports to function at USB
2.0 level in Windows XP sp2

Firstly my spec:

OS: Windows XP SP2
Motherboard: EPOX EP-8K9A7I
CPU: AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton
Memory: 1.5gb of DDR400 PC3200
HD: Seagate ST3250820AS 250GB 7200RPM SATA300 8MB Cache - OEM
DVD: Emprex 16x DVD-RW
Video: Radeon x700 Pro
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy SE

I started off by applying the most recent BIOS from Epox, fine, then
installed a totally clean installation of Windows XP SP2 (it's already built
into the XP installation), fine. Then I installed the VIA HyperionPro V508A
drivers for my KT400 chipset, fine.

BUT - my USB devices will only connect at 1.1 speeds and I get the well
known "HI-SPEED USB Device Plugged into a...." message. And this is as far as
I can get!

I've removed all of the physical USB devices from my PC, I've uninstalled
all of the USB devices from the Devices panel, rebooted and let them
re-install - I've even done it in Safe Mode to make sure the IRQ steering is
sorted out right. No change.

What I have in my Device Manager console are 4 paris of "USB Root Hub" and
"VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal host controller" devices ... which I take
to be the actual USB ports. And I have, with a nice yellow exclamation mark
next to it, in Other Devices one "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller"
which I take it is my OnChip EHCI controller on the motherboard.

I have tried to run the VIA_USB2_V270p1-L drivers but I get the message that
my OS needs to be XP SP1 or above ... which I don't understand... as it
is!!!!

Epox were about as much help as a chocolate teapot and just keep telling me
to uninstall and reboot. I'm nearly at my wits end!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... please

Could you tell me how you cured yours? I have a Asus A8V-E SE motherboard
with a VIA K8T890 chipset and it's doing the same as yours was.
