XP SP2 install messed up Canon MPC600f driver

H

Harry66

After many emails to Canon I finally got someone to admit that they
are aware of the problem with XP SP2 and the MPC600f but they DONT
plan to release a patch or anything unless the needle rises!!

So, I urge all and any to email canon and hassle them to provide a
patch.

Canon Australia has already provided a patch for this problem for the
MPC200 (see below) so why the h**l cant Canon UK for a more expensive
device??

If not already found in the meantime, you have a few options t
circumvent this problem temporarily.

1. Roll back to SP1, with several new problems and a new install of th
Canon software.

2. Disable Security Service, which makes the 600F working again excep
for scanning, which becomes terribly slow.

Hi,
I also got this e-mail from Canon with an addition saying the patc
wasn't available! I found it and installed it but it made n
difference. I called the SP2 helpdesk and they said Canon should b
working on a new driver but Microsoft are looking at releasing an SP
patch in December! I wonder why some of us are having success an
others aren't? Cheer

I wrote a letter to Canon netherlands, no reply. I wrote an email t
Canon UK, but help offered was no solution. Unbelievable. However, whe
I start Services in System Management which is in Control Panel of XP
and I start MPService manually, I can print. The signal in the tra
stay on red, i.e. no communication with printer, but strangely enough
when started manually, it works. SO apparently SP2 causes the automati
start of MPService to block. Perhaps this helps some of you folk
elswhere..
bye-bye

Here something else for you to try

Download the lastest driver from canon (keep them)
Now stop Mpservice services. Uninstall the printer.

Reboot is safe mode F8
Clean out anything in the registry under cannon. Delete the key or
value. Delete this file if still have it. Mpservice.exe

Reboot Normally.

If windows xp sp2 see this printer, let it install it.
If ask for your drivers. Try the original drivers first.
If not repeat steps and try the new driver.

Print spool does have to be set on automatic.

Tip if it works by using the old driver. Don’t use express install
on windows update website. It might inadvertently download a new
drive. Use custom instead.

The MPC600F is same as american model F50.
There is a patch on the American site for the F50 (www.canon.com)
select Americas and go to download drivers, that also fixes MPC600
problems with XP SP2

My experiences with Canon help desk where absolutely catastrophic
instead of help or any follow up, I got a mail after some days with
link for a customer satisfaction survey. Unfortunately this survey jus
crashed during filling it. Hopeless :-

For anyone who is using Multipass F20 the fix for me after installing X
SP2 was to edit MpNetIpc.ini, changing 172.0.0.2 to 172.0.0.1 a
described in an earlier post.

Summary:
Issue - After installing XP SP2, I could not print. Print erro
suggested to restart MPServices.exe. Also noticed Explorer would hang.
After editing the ini file - Both issues were gone after a reboot.

Thank you to those who contributed to this thread

Hi All,

Canon UK have just posted the patch on their website for the MPC600F
I've just installed it, and it works properly.

Canon need a boot up the $$$$ for their slow service, but to be honest
I'm just glad it's working.

Best wishes to all for Christmas.

Cheers
