XP SP2 install "error"

Trying to upgrade to SP2 via auto updates. Downloads the files fine and
start the install procedure. When it reaches the "Performing Cleanup" it
hangs and doesnt move on (hanging for approx 12 hours so far)

Any ideas?

Delete the contents of C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2

Download SP2 - 266MB

Burn the file to a CD.
md5sum:59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7

Install SP2 in safe mode if required. Reboot. Get 70+ updates from Windows
update site.

Try using the full download version of SP2 or order the SP2 CD for the cost
of shipping (or find someone who has one, they were all over the place when
SP2 come out, in computer mags as inserts, etc.). Here are some links with
good info on how to prepare for and do an SP2 upgrade, and the clean up
after. Make sure there is a full and complete backup of the system before
doing an OS upgrade. A drive imaging program to save an image to an
external USB drive is a great backup / recovery solution. Programs that do
this are Acronis True Image Home, Norton Ghost, and Terabyte Unlimited's
Image for Windows, among others.
