XP SP2 Crashes when accessed via network

I have a home network, one PC running XP Professional
Edition, the others Win 98 SE. Used to network perfectly,
but since installing SP2 on the XP machine, it crashes
whenever I try to access data via the LAN from one of the
others. The machine and shared folders and printers are
visible from the client machines, but whenever one tries
to open a data file, the host crashes.

Initially it displayed the blue screen error and
rebooted, I then reinstalled the LAN card driver, and now
it just hangs without crashing, but so that it needs to be
unplugged to reboot, no other response possible.

No later driver on Accton EN1207D on the adapter
manufacturer's web site available. Any advice?

Derick,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm.

Also, if you find the time, please report back when you
determined the cause and found a solution.

I would probably remove the adapter altogether and buy a new
one. Accton may not be the best choice. What was their unique
selling proposition? :)-)

Thank you, Hans-Georg, will have a look at the info and
see if I could get any wiser. I agree, it may be simpler
just to replace the network card. There was no USP :), I
bought the machine 2nd hand from a previous employer and
the card was already installed.
