XP SP2 causes IE advert popups

D

Dan Williams

Since upgrading to XP service pack 2 when browsing with Internet
Explorer 6.0.29 i'm getting several occurrences of popup dialog boxes
requesting me to type my username and password.

It always seems to be attempting to connect to advertisement popups,
like ad.uk.doubleclick.net, etc.

Clicking on Cancel or OK still allows me to continue browsing, but its
just very annoying.

Anyone know how i can get it to stop? Do i need to adjust my IE
security settings or something?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Dan Williams.

Nothing to do with SP2. You simply have spyware\adware on your system. As SP2
now adds security to your system it may in fact be stopping your computer
from "automatically" sending information like it did before you installed SP2
so now you see it. The following programs are free and will help with your
problem. SpywareBlaster, Spybot Search and Destroy, SpywareGuard, Adaware,
HijackThis, BHODemon, and Bulldog. Do a search for them and then clean your
system up. e:mail me if you need more help. {]:~)

OK. I already have Ad-Aware installed and i run it regularly. I have
installed Spybot Search & Destroy and it did find and remove some
other spyware, but i'm still experiencing ad.uk.doubleclick.net
username & password popup requests.

i have since uninstalled XP Service Pack 2 and reverted to using
Panicwares Pop-up stopper, but i'm still experiencing the same
problem.

I'll be reinstalling SP2 asap, but i've a feeling its an IE security
option?

Any other ideas?

Update your spyware sweeping programs before each scan. Get
Spyware Blaster and SpySites (Google will find both)
SpySites will add over 6000 sites to the restricted list in
IE with just a click.

SpyWare Blaster will block evil sites all together.

Still no go. I've reinstalled XP SP2, SpySites and Spyware Blaster,
but still i get these username and password prompts for advert
servers.

I'm tempted to reinstall my whole PC it's so annoying!

Any other suggestions before i do this?

Dan
