XP SP2 - IE browser windows conot open more than one!

Since upgrading to XP SP 2 I have been unable to open
more than one IE browsing windows - when clicking a link
the new 'destination' window opens fine and then the
original source window closes almost as if it is being
replaced by the 'destination' window. Have turned off
firewalls and popup blockers in a vain attempt to solve
this surfing problem -

Anyone have any solutions or is this a known problem,
have searched high and low...?

Tim,

that's probably caused by adware. Clean the computer, for
example with SpyBot.

If that doesn't cut it, a repair installation may be on order.
