XP SP2 and Intellimouse Optical

I installed XP SP2 and everything went smoothly as far as my software
apps all seem to be working ok. However I have a hardware problem
now. My Microsoft brand Intellimouse USB Optical mouse keeps dying
every 10 minutes or so. The light on the mouse goes out and the
pointer won't move. If I unplug the mouse and plug it back in to a
USB 1.1 port on the back of the computer, it usually starts working
again automatically for another 10 minutes but then crashes again. I
installed the latest 5.2 drivers for the mouse from the Microsoft
update site and it didn't fix the problem. I don't see any yellow
exclamation marks in device manager so no apparent conflicts that I
can see. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a hotfix or
something I can do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance...

I found that 5.2 caused me all sorts of trouble so I reinstalled the prior
version and everything cleared up and runs fine now. Worth trying.

After installing SP2 my Trackball Optical refused to work. Light went
out during Windows bootup and pointer wouldn't move. Unplugging,
re-plugging made no difference. PS2 mouse works. I have now
uninstalled SP2 and I'll wait until MS get the bugs out. (say 6
months?)
Seems totally bizarre that a MS update stops an MS mouse working!
