XP-SP-2, Norton Internet Security,Detection Intrusion

PROBLEM:
Norton Internet Security's "INTRUSION Detection" has gotten turned OFF [may
have happened during the several dial-up logins over the last few weeks where
Microsoft's automatic updates (XP-SP2) has been gradually downloading, but
even after INSTALLING the updates last night, I'm STILL unable to turn
Microsoft's Firewall OFF which I assume might be the problem with Norton and
considering Microsoft's track record, I don't want to rely on THEIR
protection!

NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2004 (no problems with Norton AntiVirus 2004):
When I try to turn on Norton's "Intrusion Detection" is says: "Failed to
save setting. Please verify that your Windows account is not restricted."
Norton's User Accounts says: "You are logged on as SUPERVISOR". However, the
"Account Properties" has a LIGHT check beside "Make this the startup account"
and the "Account Type" has "Supervisior (can modify anyone's settings)" in
LIGHT print so I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be or not!

XP - PROFESSIONAL:
-- "User Accounts" says: That I AM the Computer administrator & the "Guest
Account" is OFF.
-- The "Select logon & logoff options has both the "USE FAST USER SWITCHING"
& the "USE THE WELCOME SCREEN" CHECKED.
-- I'm still unable to TURN OFF XP's Firewell! (Start-> Control Panel
->Security Center ->Manage Security settings for Windows Firewall). Even
though I click the "Turn Off", it's still says "ON" when I exit to the
SECURITY CENTER where you see FIREWALL, AUTOMATIC UPDATES & VIRUS PROTECTION!

HELP PLEASE:
I would appreciate ANY help you can provide since I purchased Norton
Internet Security 2004 programs (Jan. & May or June) for BOTH of my
computers, but I'm now so worried about not having the protection that I
can't stay on the Internet via my high speed cable connection and I'm even
worried about this dial up account! Also, my other computer's hard-disk
drive crashed a few days ago (a few weeks after installing XP-SP2, but I
assume no connection?) so I can't check it, but I would bet "Norton's
Intrusion Detection" had been automatically turned off on it too!

I am launching a new PC, loaded with XP Home. When I tried to load Norton
AntiVirus 2004, I received a conflict message between Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect and the Mocrosoft Windows RPC/DCOM security update MS-Hotfix
(KB828741). I was instructed to uninstall this Hotfix and then load Norton
and then reload the Hotfix. However, I cannot get the Hotfix to uninstall,
using Control Panel.

Is there some way to uninstall or disable it?

Thanks,

I had this problem. I downloaded the latest live update for NIS 2004,
restarted the computer, and the problem went away.
