XP slow peer network with Win98

Soren

Peer network
File and Print Sharing
XP on one computer (very slow network access)
Win98 on the other (lightning fast)
Broadband Internet works fine with both.
Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router and 10/100 switches
Sygate Personal Firewall

The XP machine was recently upgraded from Win ME to XP.
Before the upgrade, the network was fast.

What are the most likely problems?

I've spent a lot of time seeking the correction.

It appears that the XP machine is simply taking way too
long looking for the particular files and printers on the
Win98 machine. Usually 20-45 seconds. It appears that
plenty of others are having the same problems.

On the XP machine:

1. Start\Run regedit ENTER

2. Navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Remote
Computer\NameSpace\

3. Delete this entry:

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

4. Close and reboot.
