XP says floppy not formatted

I am running XP Pro. Last week I copied a text file from
my desktop to an already formatted 1.44 floppy. I then
took theat floppy to a friend's computer (running XP
Home) and copied the file to his desktop, where he made
some changes to the file, just adding more text. Today
when I went to copy the file from the desktop to the same
floppy I had used previously, I couldn't copy the file.
Whenever I tried to access the A: drive the machine would
crunch for a bit then I got this message "The disk in
Drive A is not formatted. Would you like to format it
now?" Of course I said no, so that I wouldn't lose the
data already on the floppy. I then came back to my own
machine and I get the same message whenever I try to
access the A: drive WITH THAT FLOPPY. It works fine with
some other disks I have tried. It just won't read the
floppy I wrote to and accessed last week. Nothing new
has been installed. I even tried accessing the floppy on
a machine running Windows 2000, but get the same message.

Any ideas?

Thanks....Joe

I can try that, but before I do, is there anyway to get
the data that is currently on the floppy?

I got the diskprobe file loaded, but I don't know what to
do with it. It made no sense to me.

Thanks for the reply...I don't think I ever had it near a
magnet...took it from my drawer to my friend's house.
Seems a lot of people are having the same problem, at
least when I do a Google search.

No resolutions yet though.

Yeah, I tried it, too, but it would not read a floppy or hard disk.

Maybe someone here knows how to use it.

Maybe try booting to a win98 floppy boot disk to access dos. Then put the
floppy in and see if you can access it.
Bring back info from backup, if you have a backup.
