floppy disc problems

I have floppy disc problem. I have an external floppy disc drive. I have
found a problem where I have formatted two floppys discs & used them to save
some very small word & excel files. Now my problem is my floppy drive keeps
saying the disc is not formatted but I have saved files on them already with
no problem. The same thing has also happen at work with internal floppy &
using windows 2000. Can anybody tell me how I can recover these files from my
floppy when all I get is the message "the disc is not formatted, do you want
to format it now"

When my internal floppy does this, the following always brings it back.

Go into devic manager and remove floppy.
Shut down pc.
Remove ribbon cable from floppy
Boot computer to bios.
Set floppy to none, save and exit to windows.

Shut down windows
Connect floppy cable
Boot to Bios, set floppy back to 1.4, save and exit to windows.

Hofully you will have it back working. Never tired on an external.

One suggestion is to save your Office files to your hard disk or a USB
drive rather than a floppy. If you really need to use a floppy disk,
copy the files from Explorer to your floppy drive rather than saving
them to the floppy drive directly from Office.

I've seen 1 gb USB sticks for $20 advertised in the past week.
