XP Resets Video Drivers after re-boot

R

Robert Clark

Okay here we go!

When ever I reboot XP Pro now it does not recognize or
find my video card drivers, forcing it to run as generic
VGA.

I "update" driver and then voila it works fine until i
reboot and then...see above!

i got a new Radeon 9800 Pro card thinking my older card
finally went nuts and it still does the exact same thing.
I can't find jack anywhere on this or how to fix it. I'm
not even sure if the new card is running properly because
of this problem.

Any help would be appreciated!

Update to DirectX 9.0b (it's the latest version). Get the ATi Catalyst 3.10
drivers (they're the latest version) and updgrade your motherboard chipset
drivers.

The only thing I haven't done yet is update the
motherboard chipset.

This was happening before I got the new card though. I
had a Geforce 4 ti4600. I THINK it started after I
updated to Direct X 9.0b but I can't be certain.

I did a fresh install of XP HOME on another partition to
see just for fun if the Radeon would work on and guess
what...it works FINE. There's something screwy with my
main OS, XP Pro not keeping the display drivers. I'm not
sure what to do now since I don't want to keep two Oses
on my computer and I don't want to lose all my files,
data, and programs from XP Pro.

Argh!

Robert

PS
Upgraded the mb and still nothing.

I don't understand why you won't upgrade the motherboard chipset drivers to
see if that corrects the problem. For instance, VIA Technologies releases
updated chipset drivers several times a year.

Glad to hear the problem is solved and thanks for posting back with the
solution. It's unfortunate you had to go through all that though.
