Ok guys im a computer repair tech for a small company. Im no dummy but
i sure feel like one. I need to know what to do when a customer brings
in a computer - "used to work , now it wont boot" - I say hey np just
run a repair on windows and bing bada boom fixed. Well some times when
i goto the repair menu it only gives the option to delete the
partition.... i know the windows is there... i can see the files... i
just can not repair it sometimes... Any ideas?seems to happen randomly
- i end up installing over top

"Repair menu",one doesnt exist in xp,there's:Install xp or "Repair this
copy"..
Furthermore, repair xp is a waste of time, after the "repair" youre about at
the same state as a fresh installation of xp,plus if you use the file
transfer wizard
and save youre settings/files to a cd,apply toward the freash copy, now you
are
at the same state, both need all xp updates from this point.Eitherway,if youre
booting to xp cd and the options dont all exist, try cleaning the xp cd
before....

You are a fool, FAST only works after you reinstall all the applications you
managed to backup with FAST. A Repair Install using an XP SP2 CD will only
need the updates issued after SP2 was released. You can also create a
slipstreamed XP CD with SP2 plus current updates. Tell me how reinstalling
all applications and applying FAST is about the same state as doing a reply
install and just applying updates?
Please stop advising people to do stupid things.
This along with your bogus info on upgrading XP Home to Pro is nothing but
blatant posting of wrong information meant to harm the posters seeking help.

If you can't resolve it from the warnings links in the article below, your
options are very limited.
Repair Install
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
If it was due to a mother board change where they booted to Windows before
doing a repair install, sometimes booting the XP hard drive on the original
configuration will restore the repair option when the hard drive is booted
on the new hardware.
See the detailed info in the moving link below.

Of course that was supposed to say Repair Install, not Reply Install.
An a side note have you noticed that Andrew E. never replies to his critics
except for his stupid "where do the MVP's get their information?" posts and
that Andy E never replies with any supporting documentation for his claims
from Microsoft when myself and other MVP's supply where we get our
information?
